The Stellar 16' Stellar Kingfisher (S16S) is a transitional surfski. The Kingfisher is stable enough for entry level and intermediate paddlers to feel comfortable. This surfski is a great choice for fitness paddling and fast enough for racing! The open cockpit, rounded seat and 3-point footboard is very comfortable and responsive, keeping you on track to where you want to go.
Two water tight hatches allow for modest storage for day tripping and overnight adventures. In the ocean, the Kingfisher surfski is a blast, easily catching waves and carving on the waves. The Kingfisher's light weight makes it responsive to your power on the water and with its cockpit handles, it is a breeze to carry and car-top.

The S16S is a perfect boat if you want more speed than the S14S but more stability than the S18SX . I would say that the 16 has 95% of the stability that the 14 offers with speeds approaching the 18 . Here’s my breakdown of speed (in times) on my 4.2 mile course going at a quick cruising speed, not all out. I did the course in 57 min w/the 14 , 52 1/2 w/the 16 and 51w/the 18 . All the boats were the advantage construction , for the most part equally weighing the same. Now having said that I’d have to say that my time w/the 18 could be faster with more experience, less balance concerns, and that’s where the 16 shines. If you don’t need all out Surfski speed and want a comfortable amount of stability, this could be the boat for you . So , is it a sit on top or Surfski ? Well if you are paddling around lesser boats , consider it a Surfski. If you are paddling in a Surfski rich environment, call it a sit on top😀. I think I’ll call it a utility ski, it has a couple of hatches for some light gear and a Surfski footboard for efficient leg drive, awesome boat and aesthetically pleasing to boot , definitely a head turner. At the time of this review Ocean Flight still has a couple in stock , better get a hold of Bob and get one for yourself , this is an excellent exercise and recreation machine and we all know how hard it is to get anything nowadays.
